The Future of Prenatal Diagnosis - a summary

Within a few years new methods of prenatal diagnosis will be developed, enabling the pregnant woman to obtain a lot of information about the fetus early on in the course of pregnancy. In 2008 the Danish Council of Ethics' work was characterized by ethical dilemmas connected with the human body; the results for the year thus include a report on organ donation, a teaching booklet on 'Marks for Life' (tattooing, piercing and circumcision) and a statement on surrogacy. New report: Organ Donation - Ethical Deliberations and Recommendations

In this report the Danish Council of Ethics presents the Council members' recommendations on organ donation.



Conference 5 November 2008: Chimaera Research – Ethical and Legal Aspects
The conference will discuss what types of research are potentially capable of altering identity-forming organs and thus becoming an ethical problem, as well as how to modify the legislation to avoid such problematic experimentation



Man or Mouse? Ethical aspects of chimaera research

Euthanasia - legalizing killing on request?
The Council's entire report on euthanasia is now available in english. Untill now only section 2, holding the Council's different arguments against the legalization of euthanasia, has been available. Now the sections 1 and 3 is also available in english. Section 1 is a short definition of the term 'euthanasia'. Section 3 contains background knowledge about the debate as a whole, not least about common arguments in favour of euthanasia, which are obviously not amplified in section 2.


Ethical Forum for Young People
The Danish Council of Ethics has organized a teaching and democracy project for young people from 9th and 10th grade classes in Denmark. The project was about stem cells and ethics. Those selected to the forum made a statement, which has now been translated into english. In the statement, You can also read more about the concept of Ethical Forum for Young People.
