The Danish Ministry of Interior and Health

The Danish Central Scientific Ethical Committee
- The scientific ethical committee system's purpose is to secure the protection of research subjects participating in biomedical research projects and develop new rules in this area.

The Ethical Council concerning Animals
- follows the development within the animal protection area and provides ethical assessments

The Danish Board of Technology
- further the technology debate, assesses technological impacts and options and advises the Danish Parliament and the Government

- evaluates the conditions and consequences of using health technologies.

Statens medicinsk-etiska råd
- appointed by government to asses bioethical problems from an overall social perspective.

The Swedish Gene Technology Advisory Board
- monitors developments in the field of gene technology, oversees ethical issues, and gives advice on use of gene technology.

Norway

Norwegian Biotechnology Advisory Board
- discusses ethical questions of priciple and their application in biotechnological activities and advises the Government and Parliament

- functions as a watchtower and an adviser at the national level

The Norwegian Board of Technology
- independent office that addresses technological challenges and the possibilities of new technology in all areas of society

National Advisory Board on Research Ethics
- founded in 1991 to address ethical questions relating to research and to the advancement of research ethics

The National Advisory Board on Health Care Ethics (ETENE)
- deals with ethical issues related to health care and the status and rights of patients

Iceland

National Bioethics Committee
- evaluation of applications for research proposals incorporating the participation of human subjects and concerning health issues

The Nordic Countries

- promotes Nordic collaboration and the exchange of information on ethical aspects of biotechnology research, development and adaptation.
